In this article, recent research progress and developmental trend in gene mapping, molecular genetic marker, gene reform and manipulation, transgenic animal and so on in laboratory animal are analyzed. The application status of genetic engineering in breeding, genetic detection, definite animal models is discussed. And on the basis of the present researching situation in China, the perspective of study and application is proposed.
